The Four Day March is the largest walking event in the world and it is going to have its 104th edition in July of 2020.
It is organized in the Dutch city Nijmegen, and, in 2019, more then 41 000 participants were registered for the march from all over the world (over 80 countries).
The routes are different every year, located mostly in provinces Gelderland, Brabant and Limburg, going through the city of Nijmegen and its suburbs. The standard categories include daily routes of 30km, 40km, 50km, and 55km. “Every walking day revolves around a different town in the vicinity of Nijmegen. The first day is otherwise called the day of Elst, the second day the day of Wijchen, the third the day of Groesbeek and finally the fourth day the day of Cuijk. Every walking day has its own route maps.” (Official webpage)
Participation is open for both civilian and military participants. Military participants have slightly different regulations and their route is four days of 40 km routes with a full kit of 10 kilograms if applicable (depends of the gender).
This unique walking event is a great promotion of sport and a healthy life style. And you may be lucky to meet some of the participants who have been coming to the march for the last 50 or 60 years!
